PING G2 Iron Review. G2 irons are easy to hit. They have a soft feel and the perimeter-weighting is precise and reminiscent of the PING Eye 2 irons. The perimeter-weighting increases the sweet spot and gives golfers an extremely forgiving set of irons. The lofts are true and the shafts are precisely fit, allowing for fairly easy shot-shaping. What's more important is determining and finding a set with an appropriate length, shaft weight, lie angle, and probably most importantly - grips in good shaft w/ proper grip size.Specifications. One of the biggest differences between Ping Eye2 irons and newer clubs is the loft of each iron. Newer clubs feature stronger lofts throughout the set, giving them slightly more distance. As for Rapture irons, the Asian spec medallion would say 'J' at the bottom to indicate Japan spec.G425. The metal-wood-style, variable-thickness face and internal geometry increase ball speed and flexing for launching shots higher and farther with stopping power to hold greens. Expanded perimeter weighting in this smaller head design sets a new standard in forgiveness for an iron its size. Available in 4-9, PW, UW, SW, LW. Jun 20, 2010. #2. You can reshaft Ping irons. I've done it. Many shade-tree clubmakers do it. But, I wouldn't recommend it. Ping hosels are taper tipped. You need to have/buy the taper tipped shafts for a direct replacement. Most of the high end iron shafts are made in taper tip.The Ping Eye2 irons have a lot of weaker lofts. The pitching wedges are bent with at least 5 degrees difference compared to the i210s. The Ping G5 irons released in 2006 are between the release dates of the Eye2 irons and the i210s. The lofts are between the two sets but despite being 12 years older than the i210s they are very similarly lofted. Here is a short list of early Ping Irons from 1969 to 1999.
