Anyone know if there are more spots opened residency slots this year, or did it stay the same? 11. 4 comments. That’s basically what it was last year. It isn’t a crazy scramble to schedule though. There’s one day or a time frame where most programs will send out interviews, then you have an arbitrary time frame to accept them, and then the programs send out another wave of interviews. Some schools say they would like step 2 but it isn't required so my advisors feel that is a hint for needing the score on there, granted I'm not from a T10 so more on my app the better. You know you don't have to submit on the 7th, that's just the day it opens up. Do you can wait till the 14th when your score comes back to apply.Unfortunately a high score is basically a pre-requisite for matching derm. Even then, it is still difficult. You will need to get a >240 on Step 2 and as much research as possible to match in anything, at all. You will need to get involved with a Derm university program and do at least a year of research and have them LIKE you.

I'm so grateful for the prelim and categorical internal med interviews I have, and I was wondering if the general advice for someone in my position (i.e., having completed a RY during med school) would be to 1. complete a prelim and re-apply that year, 2. complete a prelim, do another RY, and re-apply during the RY, or 3. complete internal ...Go to DermApp r/DermApp • by MCAT_Tutorman. Applying Derm when Step is P/F . Hey everyone! Best of luck this application season! I can't begin to imagine yet how stressful this time is, and I'm rooting for you all! Many prelims will be able to take their prelims on as categorical if they don’t match the following year. Just prioritize prelims that are able to do so. If I remember correctly, some programs did require an IM letter or specifically an IM chair letter. The thinking is that they could reapply dermatology or choose to continue medicine at their home program.
